It’s finally a Summer of Pub!

There is something truly special about summertime here in the UK. Once the sun comes out you really start to see friends, families, and colleagues re-connect - whether it's in a country pub garden or a city-centre bar with revellers spilling out onto the streets.

I think all of us realise just how valuable these connections are post-pandemic, which is why we are calling on everyone to join us in celebrating a Summer of Pub, an opportunity for communities to come together across the country.

The aim of our “Summer of Pub” Campaign, which kicked off at the start of May and runs until the end of August is simple – enjoy the first summer without restrictions since 2019, by heading down to your local.

We started on the first bank holiday weekend in May and as the campaign continues we will be urging pubs and breweries across the UK to organise a range of events - whether it be an open mic night, pub quiz or tap takeover. We know that many of our locals are the hub of charitable work, and believe these activities need special promotion.  Whatever the format, there’s more than enough reasons to celebrate, and CAMRA will work hard to spread the word.

This year, we’re excited to bring two new charity partners on board for the festivities. Ask for Clive will be running Pub Pride this year, through which participating pubs will run LGBTQ+ friendly events and activities on 27 May.

We’ll also be working closely with the Thank Brew Campaign, which is a part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations over the long back holiday weekend on 2-5 June. To mark the occasion, we are encouraging pubs to stock Thank Brew, a limited-edition celebratory beer. All proceeds from Thank Brew will be going to great causes, which is something we cal all celebrate.

Pub goers can find all celebratory events taking place on our new Summer of Pub map: https://summerofpub.camra.org.uk/

Another date for your Summer of Pub calendar is of course the return of the Great British Beer Festival to Olympia London after a two-year hiatus. Taking place from 2-6 August, the festival will feature over 1,000 cask beers from across the UK, America and beyond, as is the only place to find the very best cask beers from around the world under one roof.

We will, of course, be raising a glass to a Summer of Pub and our partners at the festival, and even featuring a brand-new homebrew competition, which will be sampled and judged at trade day. Make sure to find all event details and book tickets by visiting https://gbbf.org.uk/

You can also find out more about our Summer of Pub activities and get involved by visiting https://camra.org.uk/summerofpub/

We hope you will join us in raising a glass to a Summer of Pub!
