Fuller’s Charity Football Tournament Scores £21,000 in Support of Special Olympics GB

Introduction

Fuller’s has once again demonstrated its dedication to making a positive impact in the community, raising an impressive £21,000 for Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) at its annual unified football tournament. This event exemplifies Fuller’s commitment to inclusivity, as athletes with intellectual disabilities join teams from Fuller’s and its suppliers, competing together and fostering bonds through sport.

What they did

In its fifth year, Fuller’s charity football tournament welcomed 32 teams—an increase from 24 last year—each playing in unified six-a-side matches. Athletes from Ascot United Warriors and Special Olympics Essex football clubs were paired with Fuller’s employees and supplier teams, creating an inclusive environment where people with and without intellectual disabilities could play side-by-side. This unique setup strengthens Fuller’s partnership with Special Olympics GB while also promoting meaningful connections through sport.

The community reaction

Oliver Rosevear, Fuller’s Sustainability Director, expressed pride in the growing success of the event, noting that the tournament “was bigger than ever.” Rosevear highlighted not only the financial support raised but also the invaluable relationship-building and inclusive culture fostered through the event. Fuller’s is also expanding its commitment to inclusivity with a newly launched Guide to Inclusive Recruitment, inspired in part by the success of the tournament. Rosevear extended a special thanks to all participants, referees, and the team behind the event’s smooth execution, offering congratulations to team Cabbage Patch, this year’s champions.

Impact

The annual tournament has become one of the few events in the UK where athletes with intellectual disabilities compete alongside others on unified teams, making it a highly anticipated day for everyone involved. Laura Baxter MBE, CEO of Special Olympics GB, praised Fuller’s for creating a unique platform where athletes, volunteers, and Fuller’s staff can form lasting friendships and celebrate inclusivity. The impact extends beyond the tournament, as Fuller’s involvement with SOGB fosters broader awareness and support for the charity’s mission: transforming the lives of more than 6,600 athletes across the UK.

Summary

Fuller’s annual unified football tournament continues to grow, raising substantial funds and building impactful relationships that embody the company’s values. With £21,000 raised for Special Olympics GB this year, Fuller’s is not only contributing to the charity’s cause but also inspiring inclusivity and positive change within the workplace and beyond.
