Bank Bar Dundee Community Pub Hero Winner 2024

The Bank Bar Crowned PubAid Community Fundraising Hero of the Year 2024

Introduction

The Bank Bar, located in Dundee, has been honoured with a prestigious award at the PubAid Community Pub Hero Awards 2024. Owner Paul Russell, unfortunately, could not attend the ceremony at the Houses of Commons to accept the award for being the Best Community Fundraising Hero pub in Scotland. This award celebrates the pub’s innovative and impactful fundraising efforts within the community.

What they did

The Bank Bar faced competition from over 1,000 entries nationwide in the fifth year of the PubAid Community Pub Hero Awards. The pub was recognised for its exceptional fundraising efforts, particularly for Tayside Mountain Rescue. Through a combination of collecting cans and hosting annual events such as a Christmas Hamper Raffle and a “Bandathon” featuring a full day of live music, The Bank Bar has raised an impressive £100,000.

Paul Russell expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s an honour and a privilege to just be nominated but to win is incredible. Our primary fundraising is for Tayside Mountain Rescue and the amount of money we raised is thanks to our amazing customers, we couldn’t do it without their support. We will carry on raising money and hopefully can continue to give local charities much-needed funds from our customers’ generosity.”

The funds raised have supported Tayside Mountain Rescue in purchasing new equipment and responding to over 90 callouts in 2023 within their 3000-square-mile coverage area, thanks to the generosity of The Bank Bar’s patrons.

The community reaction

The local community has shown immense support and appreciation for The Bank Bar’s fundraising efforts. The pub’s dedication to supporting Tayside Mountain Rescue has strengthened community bonds and provided essential support for the volunteers who perform life-saving work. The award has further solidified the pub’s reputation as a cornerstone of the community.

Impact

The Bank Bar’s initiatives have had a significant impact on the Dundee community and beyond. The funds raised for Tayside Mountain Rescue have enabled the purchase of vital equipment and supported the volunteers in their critical missions. The pub’s commitment to innovative and community-driven fundraising has set an example for others to follow.
