GRASSROOTS SPORTS
CHAMPIONS

Celebrating grassroots sports champions

Does your pub, club or bar sponsor a local football team, provide free food and drink for the cricket side, or host a darts or pool team?

Pubs are providing a lifeline estimated at £40 million a year to for grassroots sport, helping people in the communities to play the sports they love, and which benefit both physical and mental health. That support isn’t just for the big sports like football, cricket, pool and darts, but less commonly played pursuits ranging from netball, bowls and skittles to the little-known Bat & Trap (a distant cousin of cricket).

You can read about some of the pubs who support grassroots sports here:

You can also read Pubs and Sport: the perfect match report conducted with the BBPA and Sports & Recreation Alliance.

If you think your pub is a Grassroots Sports Champion, tell us about it by filling in our short form - we will then feature your story on our Positive PUBlicity Hub  - giving you, and the sports teams you support, a bit of recognition.

Pubs’ support for local sport is enabling thousands of people across the country to play the sport they love, with huge benefits to their physical and mental wellbeing. Without this lifeline, many local sports teams would flounder; it really does show how pubs are a force for good in their local communities.
